Ramona Pierson The Most Inspiring Person 2
<html><body>Everybody has a story but few are as painful and triumphant as Ramona Pierson's. Pierson is the CEO of a stealth startup, Pierson Labs. She is also, quite possibly, the most inspiring tech founder in the Valley today. And that's saying something.
recently met with her and her cofounder Nelson Gonz lez at the startup's Palo Alto headquarters.
Pierson is lucky to be alive. She's also lucky to be walking, talking and thinking, much less be leading her second startup, developing big-data education software. In 1984, when she was 22 years old, she went out jogging with her dog and was hit by a drunk driver. The car crushed her face, throat, heart lungs and legs. At the hospital, she fell into an 18-month coma. And then she had a heart attack. Instead of killing her, the heart attack woke her up. She came to weighing 64 pounds, blind and unable to walk, talk, eat. Doctors rebuilt her through more than 50 surgeries: a plastic nose,The Disgraceful Episode Of Lysenkoism Brings Us Global Warming Theory_7, a new eye, lots of titanium used as bones and some bones taken from cadavers, too. "Eventually, I started to look human," she says in her about the ordeal. Today, cheap beats, she looks more than human. She looks like the attractive, fit, ex-Marine that she is. But it was a long road to recovery involving having to relearn everything. In the marines, Pierson learned to code. Her experience lead to an interest in neuroscience so during her military service she wrote algorithms to diagnose brain injuries from the battlefield. Business Insider/Julie BortNelson Gonzlez, Ramona Pierson, and Tanqueray PiersonThat lead to an interest in how people learn and a job as director of technology for Seattle Public Schools. There she created a social network for students and teachers called "The Source." And that lead to her first startup, SynapticMash, an education software company sold to Promethean World for $10 million in 2010. But her injuries still plagued her. The cadaver bone in her leg randomly broke while she was running and needed to be replaced. Just last year, wholesale beats by dre Beats By Dre Mixr, her toes needed to be fixed. She became so good at living through surgeries that she actually negotiated the sale of SynapticMash from the hospital recovery room 15 minutes after an operation. She refused the pain medicine and instead popped open her laptop, hopped onto and sold her company, she told Business Insider, cheap beats by dre. Despite her history, Pierson is a cheerful, hopeful, driven person with a big sense of humor and an enormous amount of charisma. A screenwriter for Moneyball is even writing screenplay about her life. Her new company is likely to be more successful than the last one. Pierson Labs will exit stealth next month and the company already has some big customers, we've heard, and a partner at venture capital firm Khosla is her personal advisor. The company is home to about 20 employees who are building a big-data platform called Declara. It's a combo analytics/social networking platform to help teachers create more personalized lessons for students. It can also be used by enterprises for training, Gonz lez told us. Plus the company is working on other interesting projects. For instance, Hall of Famer 49er's football player Ronnie Lott is an investor, Pierson says. He wants to make football safer and is looking at Pierson's tech for that. By attaching sensors to player's bodies, the platform can analyze bio-mechanic data and assess injuries. Pierson is also half of a Valley power couple. Her partner Debra Chrapaty, 's former CIO, .</body></html>
SpaceShipTwo lights up its rocket for first time and goes su
<html><body>Branson wasn't the only one watching: Rocket aficionados flocked to viewing areas near the airport to see the blastoff. Until Monday, Mojave-based Scaled Composites, which is building and testing the plane for Virgin Galactic's eventual use, had tested SpaceShipTwo only by dropping it from its WhiteKnightTwo carrier airplane and having its pilots guide the plane back through unpowered glides back to the runway. The engine, powered by a rubber-based solid fuel and nitrous oxide, had been fired only on the ground.Monday's test was radically different: WhiteKnightTwo released SpaceShipTwo from its traditional drop zone, at an altitude of around 47,000 feet,The Beastie Boys Are Writing A Memoir, beats by dre. Afterward, the company said that the pilots confirmed "SpaceShipTwo exceeded the speed of sound on today's flight!" Spurs bring Lakers season to its merciful conclusion with Ga

LOS ANGELES Coming into Sunday s Game 4 against the Spurs and dealing with a mountain of injuries that has finally become insurmountable, the only thing left for the Lakers, who were just a single game from this season being brought to its merciful conclusion, was to see whether or not the team would come out with any fight, beats by dre for sale. Let s get people to talk about us, in the sense of, let s win here and let s go, Mike D Antoni said before the game, cheapest beat,Rhode Island State Pension Admits History of ", when asked what he told his players. Let s try to make a miracle. Why not? So they have that mindset, and I think they ll give it everything they ve got.
The sad thing is, the effort the Lakers gave that resulted in a 103-82 destruction at the hands of the Spurs might have been just that at least for the players that actually gave anything resembling an effort level appropriate for a playoff game, especially one that was more than likely to be the last of the season. The cliche of playing with nothing to lose couldn t have been more applicable to the dilapidated state of these Lakers, who are missing , , , , and of course, , all due to injury. But while put in a solid effort, and though and did what they could under the circumstances, the other two Lakers starters seemed to mail this game in from the very start.

The only bright spot for the fans in attendance at Staples Center on Sunday afternoon came a few minutes after Howard went to the locker room,Beats by Dre Custom Beats by Dre On Ear Beats by Dre In Ear beat headphones outlet, when Kobe Bryant came out of the tunnel on crutches to join what was left of his team by taking a seat behind the Lakers bench. Bryant received a standing ovation and the loudest cheers of the afternoon, even as the game was going on and hit a jumper to push the Spurs lead to 60-39. The game s ultimate result was expected by anyone who s been paying attention, but all the home crowd was looking for was a little fight out of what was left of their injury-ravaged team for one last time. Instead, at the end of a season full of disappointments, all that was left was to add the Lakers Game 4 no-show to that very long list.</body></html>

<html><body>But the justices have been wary of seemingly minor state crimes being treated as though they were serious felonies. In the case decided Tuesday, a Jamaican man who had lived legally in Georgia since 1984 was convicted of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute as a first-time drug offender for having 1,beats by dre cheap.3 grams of marijuana in his car.
That is the equivalent of two or three marijuana cigarettes, said Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
Although the defendant, Adrian Moncrieffe,Pat Summerall , was given probation by Georgia authorities, federal authorities said he was subject to deportation under federal immigration law. Federal prosecutors in Moncrieffe s case reasoned that possession of marijuana with an intent to distribute is a drug-trafficking crime that qualifies as a felony. Sotomayor, beats by dre, speaking for the court, said this makes no sense in a case where the amount of the drug was tiny and there was no evidence that money changed hands. Sharing a small amount of marijuana for no remuneration, she said, does not fit easily in the everyday understanding of trafficking,GOP eyes new abortion restrictions for DC, which ordinarily means some sort of commercial dealing, cheap beats by dre.
If a non-citizen s conviction for marijuana distribution offense fails to establish that the offense involved either remuneration or more than a small amount of marijuana, the conviction is not an aggravated felony under the INA, she said in Moncrieffe vs. Holder.
Sotomayor predicted that the decision would have a relatively limited effect because possession of small amounts of marijuana has not been treated as a serious crime in most states. Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr. dissented. Thomas said drug possession is treated as a felony under Georgia law,Ottawa weathers injuries with mix of veteran experience and youthful enthusiasm.

<html><body>While most economists aren t expecting any major shifts in Fed policy this afternoon, that doesn t mean there won t be some fireworks in the markets. The S P 500 has averaged a 0.4% gain on Fed days dating back to March 2009, with positive returns coming 64% of the time, according to market-research firm Birinyi Associates. But as the chart shows, these days tend to be pretty choppy, especially in the afternoon right after the statement is released. A brief spat of volatility typically hits the markets as traders digest the statement and read the tea leaves on what the Fed is planning next. Stocks are down Wednesday following the disappointing ADP jobs data, the beats by dre. The Fed statement is the next catalyst that gives markets a jolt. The statement is scheduled to be released at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time. A press conference isn t scheduled this month. The S P 500 hit another all-time high yesterday, notching its sixth-consecutive monthly gain. A major underpinning of the rally, running more than four years and counting, has been the Fed s easy-money policies. As long as the Fed keeps its proverbial pedal to the metal, few expect the bullish trend to change. As WSJ s Jon Hilsenrath wrote earlier this week, Fed officials are likely to continue their $85 billion monthly bond-buying programs in part because inflation has fallen well below the central bank s 2% target. For now, the hot topic du jour is figuring out when the Fed will start easing up on its $85 billion monthly bond-buying programs.
The sense is that if they telegraph the plans well in advance then the markets and investors will have time to re-assess and re-price risk, ,Networking At Incubators, Accelerators And Coworking Spaces?says Kenneth Polcari,City Hall Headlines For April 19, 2013- What Happe,Beats by Dre Custom Beats by Dre On Ear Beats by Dre In Ear beat headphones outlet, director of floor operations for ONeil Securities.
